This report analyzes the reasons and manifestations of France's decline in its traditional strongholds of influence in the West African region, starting from the beginning of its occupation of this region, focusing on pivotal countries that are considered to be of particular importance to Paris, such as Senegal, which represents its political and cultural symbolism in the region; and the Ivory Coast, which constitutes an economic lung for French investments, in addition to Niger, whose importance is reflected in being the country that supplies France with energy.
The report places the blame on France for such deterioration and failure due to many reasons on top of which the weakening of colonial estrangement in dealing with the brown continent, the arrogance and lack of apology for the colonial past in the region, as well as the failure of French military intervention in Mali to deal with militant armed groups.
The report considers that China, Russia, and Turkey have become real competitors to France in the economic and security fields. It highlights aspects of cooperation between these countries and African countries over recent years, noting that "Russian-French" competition is characterized by roughness; especially with Moscow relying on the military aspect, allowing it to achieve major breakthroughs in the region by attracting regimes and investing strongly in its military and security institutions.
