Dimensions, Center for Strategic Studies (DSS), organized a symposium in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, in cooperation with the African Center for Governance Peace and Transition Studies (AcoGaps).,
At the event, entitled “Regional and International Developments and Their Repercussions on Sudan”, speakers were: - Dr. Mahmoud Zain Al-Abidin, Director of the AcoGaps, - Hassan Al-Hajj Ali Ahmed, Professor of Political Science at the University of Khartoum, and - Mr. Mohamed Sarmini, President of DSS each gave remarks.
The symposium, which was attended by about 50 specialists and interested persons, dealt with the opportunities and threats posed by the developments taking place in the region and the world, and their effects on the region in general, and Sudan in particular. The panelists provided ideas on how to benefit from these opportunities, and possible tools to face current and potential threats.
The speakers reviewed in particular the importance of establishing a national project that guarantees benefiting from all resources and wealth in Sudan; one that provides appropriate foundations for launching a “Sudanese-Sudanese” dialogue, which does not exclude anyone, in which all the sons and daughters of Sudan participate, without segregation or exclusion.
President of DSS, Mr. Mohamed Sarmini noted that Sudan has natural qualifications that help it play a major active role in the food security system regionally and internationally. Mr. Sarmini added that the ongoing war in Ukraine and the changes that occur on regional axes and international alignments against the background of the war and additional factors give Sudan an opportunity to maximize its interests with all stakeholders.
According to Sarmini, the Sudanese are urged to build a strategy that helps them move from being affected to being an influential party. The Sudanese should start formulating their own vision concerning the shape of the state's administration and how to manage its external relations. This requires investigating opportunities and potentials that can move the country forward.
The event was held within the framework of a visit made by the DSS President to the Sudanese capital, during which he met a number of institutions and active personalities, as part of the DSS' endeavour to get deeper understanding of the issues of the region and build partnerships with local actors there.
